My practice seeks to identify ways that material research can be used to engage with the concept of labor – emotional, intellectual, and physical. Fueled by frustration and a complex relationship with functionality, I search for significance beyond utility. My methodology involves collection, organization, and building processes in order to memorialize what is vital. I work primarily with wood, clay, and found materials that grow, decay, and regrow. By mourning through making the work memorializes what is lost in movement and relinquishes control over extrinsic variables. While maintaining an active collaboration with forgetting and growth I turn laborious processes to uncover and cultivate relationships.
